Amazingly enough, today was a light day for me. I got to hang out with my Sweet Pea while Niki was at her Kalamazoo Jaycee Board of Directors meeting. It is always fun to hang out with my Sweet Pea.
Tonight, we decided that we wanted to listen to music and for some reason my hand drifted to a DVD concert of Michael W. Smith. He did a show for his 20th year in the music business, and despite the fact that he held the concert in Columbus, Ohio, it was a pretty good show. I highly recommend the DVD to anyone who likes MWS.
Part of his playlist that night was the song “There She Stands. He wrote it about America (really … our flag) shortly after 9/11. Every time I see that video, I just get chills and memories about that day come flashing back to me.
It occurs to me that nine years later, as our country moves from one crisis to another, as we deal with faith that might be shaken, throughout it all There She Stand.
Where ever the sun shines and where ever rain falls and where ever the wind blows, There She Stands.
And I am so very proud to be an American.
Here’s to those who make sure There She Stands and fights and dies for our right to be free.
There She Stands
Words and Music by Michael W. SmithWhen the night
Seems to say
All hope is lost
Gone away
But I know
I’m not alone
By the light
She standsThere she waves
Faithful friend
Shimmering stars
Westward wind
Show the way
Carry me
To the place
She standsJust when you think it might be over
Just when you think the fight is gone
Someone will risk his life to raise her
There she standsThere she flies
Clear blue skies
Reminds us with red
Of those that died
Washed in white
By the grave
In their strength
She standsWhen evil calls itself a martyr
When all your hopes come crashing down
Someone will pull her from the rubble
There she standsWe’ve seen her flying torn and tattered
We’ve seen her stand the test of time
And through it all the fools have fallen
There she standsBy the dawn’s
Early light
And through the fight
She stands
